Due to its weight, this lock is something that I use only in high-risk environments (I carry the lighter Krypto Series 2 U-lock normally). I would think that only an angle grinder could get through this one. Locking is smooth and solid; since it has a double-ended bolt, you can lock it either way. Also, the thief would have to cut the lock twice to get it open. Don’t forget the 4 foot Krypto cable to secure the front wheel against opportunists

My beautiful chromoly Specialized Allez got stolen last night, and it looks like this lock did little to slow down the thief. I understand that there is no such thing as a lock that can stop a truly motivated thief, but conventional wisdom states that you need some sort of power tool to cut a U-lock. What is particularly troubling in this case is that it looks like it was defeated with bolt cutters. In the detailed image of the break you can see it was a result of shear force as opposed to the abrasion of an angle grinder. I believe that any lock that can be easily defeated with bolt cutters should not be trusted for any sort of medium to high crime area.

- I’m not sure what the style is actuary called but the cylinder is an anti-pick disc. The keys kind of resemble the laser cut keys you would find on a modern car with a notch cut out towards the end. Its not the round style that you can open with a pen cap if that is your concern. Hope this was helpful.
Q. does this lock have NYC anti-theft protection insurance?
A. Not by itself no. It has a policy that protects your bike if it is stolen, but requires you have a policy on your bike through a private insurer already. It basically foots the cost your insurer would otherwise have to pay, up to several thousand (can’t recall exact value). This avoids false claims I imagine.
