Skylock smart bike lock offers security From Velo Labs

While incredibly necessary, are way behind the times. Even the best of them will break under brute force, and then where are you? The best defense against bike thieves is to own a bike that no one would want to steal and use a lock that’s just good enough to make it inconvenient. Last October we told you about the Bitlock, a smartphone-paired bicycle lock that lets users locate their bike on a map, lend it to other people, and unlock it simply by walking up to it. Skylock has Bluetooth 4.0 in it. Just like keyless unlocking systems you’ve seen on cars, you can do the same thing for you bike.

Skylock Best 10 Usefulness

  • Skylock is a keyless
  • The Solar-Powered Smart Bike Lock
  • Skylock prevents theft while letting you share your bike
  • Skylock is a keyless, solar-powered bike lock that just launched a crowdfunding campaign
  • A battery that needs an hour in the sun to have a week’s worth of power (a fully charged battery will last up to a month)
  • Solar-powered Skylock smart bike lock offers security, sharing
  • Keyless unlocking (either by pressing a button in the app, proximity or entering a code on the built-in touchpad)
  • Anti-theft alerts sent via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to the owner’s phone whenever the bike is disturbed
  • Automatic accident notifications to summon emergency responders (the Skylock app looks for disparities between a cyclist’s smartphone motion data and the Skylock’s data to detect a crash, and cyclists can dismiss the notification if they’re OK)
  • The £100 solar-powered smart lock that alerts you if a thief tries to steal your bike – and texts your family if you have an accident
The company is offering the discounted price of $159 to backers and ultimately the device will retail for $249. Velo Labs plans to start shipping Skylock by the end of the year. That’s pricey compared to some traditional U-locks but we think the security and sharing features will win it a lot of fans.
