Skylock seems it was only a matter of time before someone decided to introduce a smart lock designed to keep your bike from getting stolen. Their utility often stops when you start riding — which is where Velo Labs’ new Skylock comes in.
Well actually, several someones have decided that’s a smart idea, including the winner of TechCrunch Europe’s Startup Battlefield, Lock8.
Drawing on its founders Boeing and Jawbone engineering expertise, this startup has invented the Skylock smart bike lock. The kind of people who will make something both beautiful and functional that actually works really well. And that’s exactly what the guys at Velo Labs did.
If the Velo name sounds familiar, it’s probably because we’ve covered these guys before. That bike was supposed to provide haptic feedback to avoid collisions and help map out your route via smartphone, but never came to pass.
Skylock is a tough, solid U-lock that has smart features like keyless unlocking using a smartphone app, without the added friction you might expect when a formerly dumb product gets smart.
So what makes Skylock different?
1. The main attraction of the Skylock is keyless entry.
2. The solar-powered Skylock lets you monitor
3. Skylock share your bike with an app.
4. Skylock works over Bluetooth short-range wireless signals.
5. skylock the smartest bike lock ever.
6. worthy meet Skylock.
7. Skylock that can save you after a crash.
8. Open the Skylock app or simply approach your bike.
9. Skylock has a keypad.
10. Skylock can be opened with a password.
For one thing, Skylock is keyless entry, The solar-powered Skylock Bike lock, Skylock share your bike with an app, it also has a theft alert system to let bike owners know if someone’s been messing with the lock for an extended period of time.
The Skylock even checks on you if its accelerometer detects your bike has crashed. Thanks to Bluetooth Low Energy and WiFi, the bike can detect and pair with a bicyclist’s phone while riding and message friends or emergency responders in case of an accident.
The main attraction of the Skylock is keyless entry, which works over Bluetooth short-range wireless signals. Open the app or simply approach your bike and the lock will snap open. If you’ve somehow been separated from your phone, the lock has a keypad and can be opened with a password.
Finally, While that’s all very exciting, the Skylock isn’t quite available yet. In order to raise money for the production of the lock, Velo Labs is running a crowdfunding campaign on its website. The Skylock will ultimately retail for $249, but you can snag one for $159 during the crowdfunding campaign.
